Remember, it was the Howard government's lack of action over a decade which lead to a steady build-up of public outrage, and it was that outrage which lead to his desperate last-minute "intervention". So it's quite a stretch for Brendan Nelson to now claim that continuing horror stories prove that Howard's last-minute desperation tactics must be extended indefinitely.
